Q: What is Imperatum?
A: Imperatum is an action role-playing-game for the PC made by Pro Social Games. Set in the decline of a galaxy spanning human empire, players will adventure to uncover the mysteries of the veil and navigate the warring human factions. Imperatum offers engaging combat, a dynamic crafting system, hoards of loot, uniquely challenging enemies, and a modular skill system to let you play how you want.
Q: What is the release date, and how much will it cost?
A: Imperatum's estimated release is Q2 2018 on PC for a price of $19.99 (US). You can get Imperatum from our site (www.imperatumgame.com), as well as various other digital distributors such as Steam, GOG and Humble.
Q: What are these Pro Social mechanics we keep hearing about?
A: Here at Pro Social Games we believe that gamers shouldn't have to sacrifice their health to be great at the games they love. So to that end our team have come up with two mechanics based on science to help gamers make healthier choices when playing. The first mechanic came from our study of the science of sedentary behavior. Basically, when you sit for long periods of time it affects your cardiovascular system. But walking around for just 10 minutes for every hour you spent seated will counteract those negative effects. So in the game we have an unobtrusive timer that will flash when the end of an hour of gaming is approaching and you can decide whether to take a break or not. If you do you will be rewarded with a random buff to experience or item loot quality and quantity that will more than make up for the time you spent away.
The second mechanic came from the study of how light from the monitor affects your sleep. Basically staring at a monitor is like staring at a very dim sun. The light from the monitor triggers your body to remove melatonin, which is responsible for inducing sleep and repairing your body, from your blood stream. The end result being that over time you will get less restful sleep and your body will be less able to repair itself. The mechanic we are introducing to address this issue is a buff to experience, item quality and quantity while playing during daylight hours.
We understand that some people work night shifts or are unable to get up and take a break. Which is why these mechanics can be toggled off in the options window. We just want to bring awareness to issues that are not directly addressed and many players, especially younger ones might not be aware of.
Q: What is the world of Imperatum like?
A: Imperatum is a story based ARPG set in the decline of a future empire. Players will uncover the source of the mysterious veil that's throwing the imperium into chaos, navigate the factional warfare of various human nations and develop fame and power beyond measure along the way.
Q: What sort of quests will Imperatum have?
A: Imperatum has both an extensive main story line and lots of side quests. After the main storyline is completed players will have faction quests and procedurally generated quests.
Q: Will Imperatum have special “boss” fights?
A: Yes! Imperatum has several epic bosses which provide a unique challenge (and reward) to the player.
Q: Which character classes will I have to choose from in Imperatum?
A: Players will all start as an agent in service of the galactic imperium. As your character increases in experience you will be presented with choices on how to customize and tailor your skill sets and abilities.
Q: How does character advancement work?
A: Characters gain levels in typical RPG fashion: by killing monsters, exploring, and completing quests. Each time your character levels up, you gain an attribute and a skill point to distribute.
Each character specialization class has trees of unique skills, allowing for many different “builds.”
Q: What’s this I hear about you having companions?
A: Players will be accompanied by a drone companion throughout their game play experience. Your drone companion will serve two main purposes; to help move the quest and story along and act as a storage and merchant that allows you to recycle unused or unwanted gear without having to go back to town.
Q: What item types will I be able to find in Imperatum?
A: Your character has slots for head, chest, feet, shoulders, hands, legs, primary, secondary and three stims. You can also easily swap between two sets of weapons.
There are common, uncommon, rare, and sets, each providing upgrades on the base weapon or armor piece.
Q: Is there a place for me to store items besides my backpack?
A: Your companion has storage for items while adventuring. All characters will also have a private stash which can store excess items or be used to transfer them between characters.
Q: Will enemies scale in level with my character?
A: During the main story line the enemies will scale with your level to keep a semblance of balance in some of the larger levels.
Q: Are the missions randomly generated?
A: Currently the levels are statically generated, but, we have a procedural generation engine in the works.
Q: How long does it take to complete the game?
A: Completing the main story line will take about 8 to 12 hours. The endless mission system will provide unique content and challenges through hundreds or even thousands of hours of game play.
Q: What can I do once I finish the main storyline?
A: Once you complete the main story line you can continue to adventure in the world of Imperatum gaining levels and loot.
